Proposal to Groupon for National Brochure Sales Program.

My name is Greg Wellens, owner of Adventures Out West and Unicorn Balloon Company. I have been working with Katy Grass of Groupon since September of 2009. My business has been very pleased and impressed with the services so far rendered by Groupon. It is our goal to become more involved with the phenomenon known as Groupon.

Adventures Out West is an outdoor recreation business. Our business is unique, diverse and located in mulitiple market places. Our daily dealings bring us in touch with many marketing and advertising ideas. After many years of placing and analysizing advertising, I believe I have the knowledge and skills to assist Groupon with this venture.

Companies that enjoy success need to continue to inovate and offer a more diverse products or risk becoming stagnent and left behind. Good working relationships are the key to success in business and it is my intention to solidify our relationship by offering and assisting with the implementation of this idea.

Fridays business news was head lined with Googles changes in management. Google outlined several key needs to their future success as part of the management restructure. One of the points was the need to penetrate more local advertising. I am deeply involved in local advertising and this concept came to mind.

Thank you for your attention and hope this dialogue begins a prosperous and profitable working relationship.

Concept

Groupon brochure rack distribution.

What is a brochure rack? The racks I am refering to are primarily directed at travelers coming to an unfamiliar destination, Colorado Springs for example. The racks are located in hotels, airports, vistors centers and other highly visible locations. These racks are used by locals as well.

Groupon would take a brochure rack spot in the top 100 markets Groupon services. Utilising existing relationships with willing vendors, Groupon can custom build an offering for each market. Different from a one day sale, these offerings would be sold on a daily basis for redemption within a short period of time, a day or so at participating businesses.

Some amount of brochure rack viewers would not have a clue what the Groupon brochure is. But those savy users of Groupon would instantly recognizse the option for cheap recreation and services. Those who dount know soon will. The Groupon brochure would be simple in design and easy to use. Modern technology for smart phone scanning, web browsing and ticket purchasing would be incorporated, see sample brochure below.

Why will this work?

My working knowledge of this concept is from a recreation providers point of view. I believe it would have further benefits to other advertisers far beyond my experiences. Many advertising sources have come and gone like the yellow pages (bye bye). One source that has stood the test of time so far is the Brochure Rack and soon to be replaced by the Automated Concierge or Digital Brochure Kiosks.

The Groupon product would open up the brochure rack to many more business than just those who have rented limited space in the rack. I for one would jump on the oportunity to ad another customer tomarrow even at the deeply discounted rates.

All businesses are different as to where they advertise and where their customers come from. This is just one local advertising option that still works for my business and many others who continue to advertise with them.

This concept would be a worthy task to undertake. Financial details at a minimum would require an estimated $480,000.00 investment in brochure distribution and $100,000.00 in brochure printing. The business model would need to produce $4,800,000.00 in sales in order to pay the vendors 70% of sales, 10% for brochure distribution and provide 10% profit for Groupon and 10% sales team commission. This is minimum sales revenue needed to make it worth while, $4800.00 per market per month or $160.00 per day per market. Sales should well exceed this estimate when all vendors are on board, Restaurant, Shops, Services etc.

I look forward to your thoughts on this concept. I offer the idea in hopes of becoming a partner with Groupon. I believe this idea to be a worthy project and am willing and able to put this program together for you.
